About the Blog

Blog Post One 04/10/23

It’s 6:12 pm on October 4th, 2023 and I’m sitting at my window in my staff accommodation room on the Isle of Arran, an island just off of the west coast of Scotland and one I’ve lived on now for nine months. From my bed, you can hear the water just behind the trees making its way back down the creek to the ocean. Ever so often you’ll hear a car break the tranquil soundscape, tires on pebbles, scratching their way up the driveway.

In a few weeks, I will officially have spent a full year out of my home country, Canada. With only one month planned and a three-month train pass, I left on November 7th, 2022 to begin backpacking around Europe. It’s surreal to look back on the life that I have lived since hugging my family for the last time and taking flight. The memories and connections I have made come back in waves and flashes, sometimes as if I’m floating on the surface of the water and sometimes as if I’m trying to catch air after being taken under by a wave.

So with this blog, I intended to share and reflect on the journey I’ve had so far. As memories come and go in snippets, so will my stories; out of order, some in full detail, some hidden behind occasional mind-fog, and if no one reads on let this blog stand as the chronicles of my 20-something-year-old-self trying to figure it out, whatever “it” may be.
