Carpet

Carpet is an exploration of materials simultaneously questioning domestic items and pushing them to their boundaries. This piece is constructed from four pieces of plywood and various ropes. A pattern of circles creates a framework that then is woven through. The carpet is approximately 10 feet by 2 feet when flat on the ground; displayed with the two triangles the length is cut in half, approximately 5 feet by 2 feet. The visual effect the colour of the ropes and the woven pattern creates changes, depending on where the viewer positions themselves in relation to the structure. The unconventional materials allow the piece to take structure therefore acting as a traditional carpet could not. Carpet has the ability to be an interactive sculpture.
